Good day po!

Id like to have your suggestions and/or comments for a good/great portrait (or even macro) 1.8 Lens...but my concern is...are'nt they all just manual focus?

Meron po ba macro/portrait Lens that can AutoFocus? ...with a Nikon D40?

AF-S Micro-Nikkor lenses (e.g. AF-S 60mm f/2.8G) can autofocus with your D40. There are also some Sigma primes (e.g. 50mm f/1.4 with HSM) that can autofocus with your D40.

Just look for lenses which have an internal focusing motor and you're good.

The Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] (version N II) or the Tamron AF 28-75MM F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) will autofocus on your D40.

These lenses have gotten good reviews and are priced more competitively than the original nikkor lenses. That is if you're on a budget.

I also suggest the Nikon 60mm micro AFS. You can also use it as a portrait lens.

Yung Sigma 30mm f/1.4 bagay pang indoor kapag kinakapos ka palagi sa space with 50mm. Eto gamit ng kakilala ko sa D40x nya.

If you don't mind losing 1-stop:

- Nikkor AF-S 60mm/2.8 Micro

Most of the time at F1.8 the DOF is a little too shallow for me anyway, so I normally use 2.8 even if I can go wider.

If you need a lens for macro I suggest Nikkor AF-S 60mm/2.8 Micro or 105 f2.8 VR Micro, you can use it also for portrait.

i agree.. wag magpa-B.I.. ako na-B.I. na niyan.. i just bought my flash this eve as per sir B.I.en's advice..

anyhoo, if you're worried about the AF issues of the 50mm, coming from a D40 owner also using a 50mm, it's not that hard really.. medyo hassle nga lang pag mabilisan.. pero bearable naman.. but if there will be an avail lens same as this one, i would so love to get one..

Correction f/2.8 is 2-stops slower than f/1.4

Oh yeah, that's right. I was thinking about F1.8, though even that is more than 1-stop from F2.8. Anyway, thanks for the correction.

Hi, Canon user here and just got a 50mm 1.8 a few days ago. It is really good for portraits. In Canon, the lens will autofocus. Medyo may ingay lang pag nag sudden change ng focus point location.

Good price and performance combination.

but another BI mode

kaunti na lang with the price of this lens my D80 body kana

then get the great 50mm 1.8 with the price around 4-5k

it will AF at D80
