only deal breaker i can see so far for me is the lack of auto off sensor for the LCD display. i expect it to be annoying. but still definitely considering it since budget is very tight right now. na deny ni "kumander" budget request for a 40D e.lol! ;D

the difference is quite obvious between 450D and 1000D.. 450D really has the advantage... you can compare 1000D to 450D's older brother the 400D model.

I dont think d 1000d can b compared to d 400d, based on specs its slower and has less af points. D 450d is the successor to d 400d, and thus d 1000d is of a different league.
However this cam has impressive high iso capabilities.

Now, Canon has 4 levels. What do we name the new 1?
 ;D

Pro
Semi-Pro
Entry Level
Sub-Entry Level? (Parang sub-compact?) ;)

Both 1000D and xxxD models are still entry level cams...

IMHO only cams with dedicated dials for shutter and aperture qualify as prosumer.

It's not a big deal, really.  That 3" LCD really sucks up battery juice very quickly.  The only other dSLRs out there with screens that big have powerful batteries to support it; the EOS 450D battery is puny in comparison.

I found myself keeping the LCD turned off all the time, except to review shots.  The infrared sensor is there, but remains unused.  Unlike the previous generation of cameras, the EOS 450D viewfinder have indicators for all exposure settings --- aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.  You can also change any of those settings using buttons on the camera body, without the need to dig through menus.  Therefore status display screen isn't nearly as important to the 450D as it was with the EOS 400D, or Nikon D60.  You can keep shooting and shooting with the LCD turned off, conserving battery life.

I dont mind having huge LCD. Most of us wants it as big as possible simply because it looks nice and neat. Even LCD TV's are better when they're BIG. No one cares about the power consumption. Also, I dont turn off the LCD so I can always check if my settings are correct. It's like driving or operating a machine for me. You dont turn off the monitors or cover the front panel of the car. Even expert machinists or drivers look at the monitor.

Battery is the least of my concerns. During photoshoots, I bother myself much with framing, composition, viewpoint, exposure, etc. Batteries now are becoming more and more powerful. I never experienced running out of battery even when I shoot long duration events. But of course I have a spare battery inside my battery grip. If you constantly run out of batteries, buy a spare battery....instead of turning off the LCD, or disabling the features you need.

It's just me. Thinking out loud.

Cheers!

I think the label "prosumer' is not only designated to DSLRs, there are also PNS Prosumer cameras.

I Agree 101%. I'd buy 2 spare batteries first before even considering turning off the displays.
Now us Canon users need a more hi-res LCD. 230K is no longer cool :D

Sir Dave, Paano naman po ang D80? Dxx nomenclature for Nikon is entry level, but this is the only 1 with dual dials in this class. It's not exactly a D200 and of course not a D300, but it's also far in terms of hardware specs from the D40/60.

Napapa-isip lang kasi ako.  ;) ;D

I saw the actual 1000d unit in Amsterdam Airport. Wasn't able to review it that much coz i we were asked to board na agad. It's small, but not significantly smaller than the 450d. The price though converted to Php is 37,+++. This is already less tax since the airport should be duty free.

Update: Niregaluhan officemate ko ng kaniyang daddy ng 1000D para sa birthday niya. Nagpapaturo siya sa akin. Kala niya daw parang P&S na from the box, ok na at madali matutunan. Pagtanggal niya daw sa kahon, di niya alam kung ano unang pipindutin.  ;D
Can't wait to try it. Sana madala niya sa office soon.
