I got a generic from Henry's before.  Never used nor tried it till after a month.  It never charged.  It was never replaced even with the receipt.  Its a different generic brand from what they're carrying daw.  Morale of the story: always test your batteries, generic or not.

Same thing happened to me, I got a free generic battery from the Song brothers in singapore when I got my battery grip. Tried it ok naman, but nung naubos na yung charge, ayaw magcharge sa orig na charger.

Battery lifetime becomes less especially when they are not used. Try to use your batteries (original or generic) until they are almost totally discharged, then charge them again. Normally batteries can recover and perform well pag palaging nagagamit, meaning charge and discharge.

I also recommend that you use your generic batteries first as your initial power source and keep your fully-charged original as your back-up. In this way you'll be sure na ok yung back-up mo. Another suggestion is to rotate them as main or back-up.

Anyone know where I can get generic batteries for my Nikon D80?

CD-R King does not have these.

Thanks

Some generic batteries are good and some are not. If the cell inside the pack is China it is no good, but some generic are using a japanes cell like toshiba, sanyo ecth. Mixing two unmatched pack inside the grip will not going to give aproblem to you cam. Mas iiksi nga lamang ang cycle, Law of electricity. Now how are you going to know what cell is in your generic packs? If it is too cheap then it is chinese cells, tsambahan ito, Hindi sila masyado sa quality. Besides the Japanese, American and European cell makers don't dive that much(price). If the generic maker are using other cell aside from chinese, then it is OK,
Try opening your Packs( canon/nikon ecth.) you will going to see the mark of sanyo or panasonic.

Thanks for the info.  Would you know if CDR King NB2L batteries for Canon systems are from Japan and safe to use?  They cost P480.

I got 2 Phottix generic batteries (EN-EL3e) for my D80 from HK.  Cheap naman.

One died on me after a month.  I thought it was just an aberration.  Then the other one died on me just recently.

I got myself 2 originals this week at Glorietta for Php2,500 each.  At least, i know i won't have any problems soon.

I guess if the price difference is more than P1,000 then going generic is ok.  But if the price difference is just a few hundred than original is the way to go.

Are there good and inexpensive generic batteries for the D80 locally?

I would think that if its not the same brand as the camera, then its generic.  But like mentioned in previous posts, there are different types and kinds of generic batteries.  Some are better than others.

got one "generic" that is being sold in ebay.  been using it for a week straight, around 100 shots a day.  charged it three times already... no problems naman.  or it being in a grip with an original battery may have helped.  ;D

I've used generic batts for both the grips of my 40D and 400D for more than a year already.  I even mix it with the original one. no problems so far and its as well indicated on the manual of the grip that you can mix and match different types with different charge levels. ;)

i've used generic batteries in the past but have not encountered a problem. one of the lucky ones i guess.  however, since there are more problems out there with generics, i would just go with originals.  if you look at it, the prices for original batteries are not that expensive anyway.  you are going to regret when that generic battery just dies on you in the middle of a good photo op..

genuine for me. i don't want to risk it.  i have invested already in my camera and lens. can't afford to cover an event, then the generic battery going kaput after a couple of shots.

Just wanted to dig deeper into the topic.

Was considering purchasing 3rd Party Batteries from the Marketplace sellers here. Any inputs on performance and reliability?

TIA!

well technically li-ion battery production is now mature na halos pare pareho na lang sila kahit orig or generic, china or japan...i used to work naman sa japanese company and usually yung battery na order namin may tatak lang ng company namin and just design ng engineers namin..sa china lang actual production..then yung nag OEM sa amin they usually sell excess batteries as a 3rd party battery they are not allowed to use the name of the company...but technically pareho din ng "Orig" battery namin... they can sell it cheap because wala naman silang R&D don and they already have the tools..and its more expensive kung konti lang produce nila..
kahit naman Sony, Dell, HP, Apple.. kahit may ORIGINAL na tatak sa battery nila nagkakaproblema din just look at their recent recall sa battery ng laptop..or some exploding batteries hehe
