That can't be right. My camera has sensor dust reduction and its viewfinder image is 100%.

Andreas Gursky’s “99 Cent II Diptych”

The first photograph to sell for more than $3 million, Andreas Gurky’s 99 cent II, Diptych reached $3,340,456 at a Sotheby’s auction in London, February 2007. ;D

Did you know that ...

there is a photograph showing a starving Sudanese child with a vulture waiting to devour the weak child as soon as it is motionless, won Kevin Carter the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography.

And did you know that . . .

This photo was reproduced all over the world, touching many thousands of people, becoming an icon of African misery (cover of Life Magazine), winning a Pulitzer Prize, and, a year later, apparently contributing to Carter's own suicide.

The famous photo..from flatrock.org.nz. Should get us thinking this Christmas season.

Did you know that the 1st that the first photograph was an image produced in 1826 by the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce on a polished pewter plate covered with a petroleum derivative called bitumen of Judea?

To add, exposure time was 8 hours. Even when film and plates came to the norm, ISO or ASA was too slow to even capture people walking. So early photographs of walkers had them pose for minutes on end. With the advent of the 35mm, action could now be captured and gave way to the term "The Decisive Moment" via a photo of a man jumping over  a puddle by Henri Cartier Bresson.

Ewan kung na post na ito. The word "photography" was derived from the Greek words " photos" meaning "light" and "graphein" meaning "to draw". Considering that definition, is there really much difference between digital and film? ::)

i think there's no difference... you "draw" images with light both on film and on image sensors. :)

Isa nalang. Thomas Edison was widely credited for "creating" or pioneering the use of 35mm film. This was half the film size used in Eastman Kodak cameras. It was to be used in a new type of Kinetoscope for moving images on a strip of celluloid film, which could be viewed by one person at the time. Movie film was standard 70mm. Oskar Barnack came up with a camera design that could now use this "fast" 35mm size cinematic film and allowing for enlargement for prints. His design, the  Leica now came into existence and the snapshot became reality. Of course in those days the Leica would be as expensive as a 5D or D3, maybe even more considering the economics then. So, afternote, if you own one of these cameras, you actually own the first ever "fast" camera, snapshot thingee, point and shoot (oh yes) and grand daddy of our DSLRs. The Barnacks are a specific type- bottom loading, slow winding film advance , rangefinder focus and of course, small and portable size, which gave the early street shooters an advantage over the big plate and sheet film cameras.

Garry Winogrand, one of the most influential street photogs of our time, at the time of his death , left over 300,000 undeveloped images on negs. I think , as of writing, researchers are still looking over these captures.

Garry Winogrand (1928-1984) was a photographer, born in New York City. He was a proponent and practitioner of street photography. During his career he received three Guggenheim Fellowship Awards (1964, 1969, and 1979) and a National Endowment of the Arts Award in 1979. He made his first notable appearance in 1963 at an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City. This show included Minor White, George Krause, Jerome Liebling and Ken Heyman. In 1966 Winogrand exhibited at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY with Lee Friedlander, Duane Michals, Bruce Davidson, and Danny Lyon in an exhibition entitled "Toward a Social Landscape". In 1967 he participated in a show called "New Documents"at MOMA with Diane Arbus and Lee Friedlander.

Garry studied painting at City College of New York and later studied painting and photography at Columbia University in New York City in 1948. He also attended a photojournalism class taught by Alexey Brodovitch at the New School for Social Research in New York City in 1951. Much later, he taught courses in photography at the [[University of Texas]], Austin and at the Art Institute of Chicago. His lessons were reportedly fondly remembered and deeply influential on his students.

Garry Winogrand was influenced by Walker Evans and Robert Frank and their respective publications 'American Photographs' and 'The Americans'. Henri Cartier-Bresson was obviously another primal influence although stylistically different. Winogrand was never looking for a "pretty shot". Anticipation and the timing of the taking of a photograph come into play in the work of all street photographers and Bresson was one of the first and best at this aspect of the art.

Winogrand was known for his portrayal of America in the early 1960s and his interest in social issues of the day and in the role of media in shaping attitudes. He roamed the streets of New York with his Leica rapidly taking photographs using a prefocused wide angle lens. Often his lens would be tilted, leaving his photographs with a slanted result.
