Did you know that old timer photographers could:

  - judge the distance of subject from their camera accurately without using AF or any other measuring device?

  - that in the old days, for really accurate focusing especially on shallow DOF shots with wide open apertures and long FL, they use long tape measures to accurately measure distance of subject to camera?

  - in the days of manual flash only, no TTL metering, thyristor flash cut-off, they could set the aperture, shutter speed and flash output correctly and consistently?

[ty Sir.  i always wondered why Nikonians are being referred to as the Dark Side.]

Did you that you can control the shutter of your DSLR if you have Nokia N900 by installing the free Pykake software from Maemo.org. I test in my D7K successfully. You can also use it as timer for when using Bulb and can use it for intervalometer. Ang galing!

By the way, N900 is a Linux based OS phone.

did you know that you can have a 2-sec timer on your canon 350D/400D? simply turn on the mirror lock up function and set the drive mode to "self-timer". Upon pressing the shutter the mirror locks up-then waits another 2secs (instead of the usual 10secs) before the actually taking the shot. A nice feature when working on a tripod using long exposures. You get the benefit of minimizing camera shake due to pressing the shutter and vibration from the mirror slap. a good alternative if you don't have an ir remote or cable release.

not sure though if this is the same for other models

This is feature is also available in some Nikon cameras like the D90 for example.
