Check the aspect ratio you are using, it affects the mp count.

Picture Size should be [L] and Aspect Ratio, for me at least, is 3:2

hi coffeebugg... when my setting is like that it only tells me it uses 9mp compared to 4:3 12mp but i find the image size of 3:2 better. is there any way i can get it to 12mp? thanks.

Are you talking about file size or pixel count? If we're talking pixel count, then 4:3 is always the standard. It's just that I am more biased to wide shots hence I use either 3:2 or 16:9. Keep in mind that regardless of the aspect ratio you are using, your photo's pixel density will remain constant and file size (1mb, 2mb, or 4mb) depend on the quality setting you have your camera on.

Summarized, A photo taken in 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9 will all have the same quality if your camera is set to the HQ RAW. But this does not mean that at 12 mega pixels will yield file sizes of 12 Megabytes. The user manual clearly states this.

Hope that answers your question.
