Photo Cult: Banaue, Ifugao
« on: July 20, 2012, 01:34:31 PM »
Sharing some takes from my 2-day photo cultural immersion (photo cult) retreat in Banaue, Ifugao. Upon hearing that it is already harvest season in Ifugao, I struggled last minute on Friday afternoon to book a trip to Ifugao to be able shoot Banaue and Batad Rice Terraces over the weekend.

Neary 6 months after Bachang was launched, 75% of the damaged portion of Batad is restored. Thanks to all the concerted effort of both private and government sectors.

Pipho Org was one of the few photography clubs who supported the program with master photographer and conservationist John Chua. He concieved the Bachang (Bayanihan + VolunTourism) activity with the people of Ifugao. Dubbed as Batad Weekend Warriors, volunteers from Manila went to Ifugao to bring tools and work in the restorations.

Restoration entails repair of the damaged portion of the stonewalls from Ground Zero and up. As you can see, 3/4 of that critical area is almost completed. Volunteers (VolunTourist) work side by side with the farmers to clear the landslide, put back the stonewalls (cavite) and restore the irrigation of the rice paddies.

Blest with a good sunny weather by Kabunyian, I was lucky to catch some action photos from the rice fields i.e. woman harvesting, Ifugao elders clad in traditional dress.

Of course, the trip wont be complete if I don't go to Cambulo. I spend a night with the locals and treated them for a film showing using my iPad.
