Very nice but the smaller sensor sorta worries me. Yung LX5 kasi medyo hirap na sa low-light eh or at least in my friend's copy. Hope the new Venus Engine compensates well for this :)

LX5 user here. I have the same gripe. Why does the successor have a smaller sensor? (sigh)
I know this is a minor gripe but big sensor surface = more light gathering capabilities right? (due to the bigger surface area :(

I'm not too sure about this. I like the faster aperture on the lens but the smaller sensor is troubling.  The Sony RX100 might take away some sales from Panasonic even though it's more expensive  due to Sony's larger sensor.

Coffee_rolla, the bigger sensor besides more light gathering capabilities also matters in depth of field. If you want everything to be in focus, a smaller sensor is quite fine. However, if you want more selective control of the DOF, you want a larger sensor.

@johnrock
Yup I agree. The better resolution, focusing, control, given to the LX7 would be better served if it had a bigger sensor because the bokeh quality in the resulting LX7 videos would be better. The sony rx100 will likely have it's following. The sony will surely sway users away from the LX7 because it's more pocketable, 20mp, bigger sensor, better cropping, larger prints, and is probably more sensitive to light.

Our LX7 won the fast lens and wide angle game though (I will always take 24mmm over 28mm) ... but... I have to be honest, I was hoping for a bigger sensor. :)

I was really expecting a more larger sensor when i was thinking that their would be an LX6, but since it comes out as LX7, i might as well be hesitant. My x10 will still serve the job :)

I believe that they put a smaller sensor in the lx7 because the sales of their mft line of cameras might get affected. Sony can afford to put a bigger sensor in the rx100 since they don't have mft sensors, instead they have the nex line series which is an aps-c size sensor.

It also might actually be a different design philosophy for achieving a higher quality compact camera.  1st method is something like a fixed lens with a larger sensor like Fuji's X100. The 2nd method is a larger sensor with a zoom lens which is something like Sony's RX100 or Canon G1X. The 3rd method which I believe Panasonic is trying to pursue is a faster lens (as the zoom lens can remain at a fast aperture even at the long end of its zoom) with a smaller sensor.
