Just ask for a full refund if by today, you still won't be satisfied with the units offered to you, and then buy elsewhere.  Since you are currently in QC, you have a lot of options where to buy, and probably be ultra satisfied with what you'll be getting.

@Binggy

My apologies, Sir. Well...this is the first time I dropped F-bombs in a forum. I hope it will not happen again. Hahaha :)

Before this issue happened, I always thought it's more reliable to get a sealed, brand new, zero shutter count unit from a merchandiser inside a mall than in Hidalgo. Well...I learned my lessons the hard way.

I think I'll just follow your lead and sir seismicshift's: I'll press for a refund and take my money elsewhere.

No worries Jai. We feel your pain. I just hope SM or the supplier delivers (pun intended hehe) on their promise.

Keep your fingers and toes crossed and let us know what happens :D

Btw, 2 camera sellers I've personally tried and tested here in Pipho are Fidgi and Wingofus. You might want to contact them if they can provide the camera you want.

@Binggy

Thanks Sir for the encouragement!

I just called their Binondo office and (guess what?) they said they'll have the unit delivered here before 4PM...when in fact what had been agreed upon last night was the unit being here by 2PM. Oh well, it seems I'm held at the jugular by Olympus' official local distributor.

I already told one of the HR people there that in the event all three cameras they'll be sending over still have signs that they've been used beforehand, I'm going to contact DTI and file an official complaint, apart from demanding a refund of the unit.

I'll try to correspond with Fidgi and Wingofus. But I think they're not offering terms payment for CC purchases. Nonetheless, thanks for the heads-up. :)

Jai, in that case you might want to check out Mang Ramon and Henry's in Hidalgo. Best if you can call them up first regarding availability and payment options so you don't waste your time.

Hahaha :) Ang nakakatuwa nga po dun sa mga test pics na nasa internal memory ng cam, nagkakatuwaan yung mga taong kinunan ng pics. Candid shots kumbaga. Talagang pumosing yung mga tao. Hahaha :)

@Binggy

Yessir, I think that's my next best option.

An Olympus rep just called me; she said the delivery person is on his way. She also told me that the three units they're bringing came from overseas.

Haaaay. I really hope they firm up their internal controls. Sayang din po kasi sa resources ng lahat ng parties..imagine, they have to spend for the delivery person's transpo to bring the units to QC. It's inefficient.

Again, maraming salamat po for the encouragement and the help! :)

Hello everyone! :)

The replacement just arrived. A few notes for everyone's perusal:

(1) The delivery person brought wit him three units, which were all sealed. The "official" seal is a thin circular plastic adhesive, not some rectangular silver seal.

(2) Each had a shutter count of 99 and a flash count of 2. It may be surmised that the cameras, before they left the factory, were tested for 99 actuations, two of them containing flash. Perhaps this is SOP for all Olympus cameras?

(3) The OLED screen is gorgeous.

Also, the additional 12-month warranty extension had been approved; the unit has now a warranty of 24 months.

To everyone who replied to my posts (and read my rants), thank you very much.

I hope others may learn from my experience. GET YOUR STUFF ANYWHERE BUT INSIDE THE MALL! Hahaha :) Just kidding. :-P

Thanks thanks thanks! :)

Honestly medyo mahirap ang situation na yan, if you are really planning on getting a refund or replacement.

Just like in any bank, as soon as you get the money from the counter, responsibility mo na yan and they are not liable if ever may fake na nakasama.

Pwede lang nilang sabihin na baka ikaw lang ang nag click ng more than 200 times kasi wala ka rng evidence na makak prove nah hindi mo clicks yung more than 200 shots.

And for the photos, there is also a possibility na yung SD card lang ang galing sa trinoma and not necessarily the camera. Mababasa din kasi yung photos from the sd with different Canon cameras.

In short, do it is very reasonable to ask for a refund or replacement, we are living in the Philippines, and business is business here. Mukhang malabo na talaga ang chances for a refund or replacement.

@thecoy

Hi Sir! :)

Ok na po Sir, nakakuha na po ako ng replacement. Actually, SM Southmall was more than willing to process the refund request (which fortunately didn't push through, since the replacement unit arrived and was in tip-top shape), since they realized na medyo weird na rin yung turn of events last Thursday (even the customer service rep who received me and the Olympus saleslady was shaking her head in disbelief when she found out what happened).

As for the photos...naka-store po kasi sila sa internal memory nung camera (I believe the Olympus XZ-1 has an onboard memory of 55MB, which is more than enough to get a number of JPEGs in it). Good thing about the promodizer and their supervisor, they acknowledged the mistake. Even yung sa head office po ng distributor in Binondo, they acknowledged the lapse and told me that they're already making some changes internally to prevent a repeat of this booboo.

As for the SD card naman po...wala talagang naka-bundle na SD card inside the camera box. Bale po yung card eh binibigay na lang sa customer; the stocks, I believe, are separate. Dapat nga po ang kasama lang dun sa package is a 4GB, Class-2 SD card, but when I "first" bought the camera last Sunday, I cajoled the promodizer to include instead an 8GB Class-6 card, since yung binibigay naman nilang free pouch ay very generic (in fact, I had to get another pouch from Lowepro since malalamog po yung camera should I use the bundled pouch). Good thing the promodizer relented. :)

So ayun po...sa pagkahaba-haba man daw po ng prusisyon, good ending pa rin, a la Filipino action-comedy movie. :)

Maraming salamat po Sir for the response! :)
