guys help naman. recently bought a Hoya IR filter after being inspired by your breathtaking IR photos. I had the chance to try IR photography for the first time awhile ago. Took a few shots and i'm not satisfied with the results. I shot about 5 IR photos and all of them produced a vignet like effect that's evident sa sky (hot spot ba yun?)  :) Ito na yung best photo ko from awhile ago. Please advise on how to improve this photo and what i've done wrong. thanks. I really hope to learn doing IR Photos.

Camera: 350D
Lens Used: 24-70 2.8L (kasama naman siya sa list of preferred lenses for IR)
Filter : Hoya R72
ISO: 100
Exposure: Manual
Aperture: f5
Shutterspeed: 10 secs.
Focal length" 30mm

Hula lang sa settings.
Custom white balance used: image of a sun lit green grass

thanks in advance.  :)

- Richard

No cloud formation rin kanina. The sky was pale blue. Is that a factor?  ??? Thanks for your patience  ;D

i presume this is an unprocessed photo. i do not see a hot spot. i think focus and dof ang problems ito. the tree is rather soft in focus. go with a smaller apertue for a wider dof and just increase your exposure time. tama ka it is really very dependent on the intensity of the sunlight, as IR light is less reflected with less sunlight.  try also other white balance like a blue sky. as for the colors, play with selective color in photoshop.

these i learned from dni and dave_d from previous posts. tama si ann, shoot lang ng shoot till you get the hang of it.

i hope this helps.

sir, not an expert here pero ito yung alam ko so far:

for a standard camera (not IR modified) using a hoya R-72 filter you can either use the distance scale to guesstimate or use the long method:

- compose (without the IR filter)
- use the camera AF to get a focus lock on the subject
- set the focus mode to manual
- install the IR filter
- take the shot

*i also read somewhere that using an IR filter causes the focus point to shift (i think papalapit) -i'm not sure if the shift is significant though.
